Keith Richards and Mick Jagger on Stage, Hamburg, West Germany, September 13, 1965
Between September 11 and 17, 1965, the Rolling Stones played five infamous shows in West Germany and then a date in Vienna, Austria. Each of the shows ended with fans rioting, which was a regular occurrence at Stones concerts during this time. The band’s U.S. Tour manager Bob Bonis traveled with them on the short tour. There he didn’t have to handle his usual tour manager responsibilities and took full advantage of the opportunity to capture some his most enduring images of the band on-stage, backstage, and traveling about. Here Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are captured in a shot that could only have been taken by someone with the completely unrestricted access that Bob enjoyed.. In this rare and collectable photograph, the energy and excitement of the Stones’ live show leaps off the photograph. The shot was taken from behind the stage as the Stones rocked Ernst-Merck-Halle in Hamburg on September 13, 1965.
