There are plenty of streams and waterfalls in the upland areas of Evia and we found a lovely, shady waterfall by a spring, just past the village of Platanistos. At first we thought there were lots of blue butterflies, dancing over the water and then realised they were gorgeous blue-green damselflies. I'm not sure of the exact species, so id would be welcomed. I couldn't get close enough to use my macro lens, so these were taken with the 100-300 and some aren't quite as sharp as I'd have liked. I was glad to be able to catch a few with their wings open, as they generally closed them when they landed, only flicking them open for a second or two. UPDATE - some research leads me to believe this is most likely a "Beautiful Demoiselle" (Calopteryx virgo) Some more shots below. Explore #64 on Monday, June 18, 2012
