The Didcot Hoard discovered by Bill Darley, a metal detectorist, in 1995 and on display in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, England. It comprises 126 Gold Aureii and 25 Silver Denarii. At the time of its being buried it equated to around 11 years salary for a Roman Legionary, so a substantial find. The coins range in age from Vespasian through to 160 AD being the oldest coin found. Speculation is that it may have been a donative offering for the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Dan Roman history.
